Closing Ceremony will be Thursday, June 28th at 11am....all parents are invited to come see what the children have learned during the week.



A Message from Bishop Janice Riggle Huie

This is my first day back in my office after the 2012 General Conference and I must tell you, I am glad to be home. It has been a long and challenging two weeks that included many highs and lows. We can all be proud of our delegation from the Texas Annual Conference who represented us well and offered leadership and wisdom on many issues. I was especially encouraged by the time I spent with the young clergy from the Advancing Pastoral Leadership program of our conference who visited General Conference to learn more about the workings of our Church. They gave me great hope for the future of our Conference and a reminder that God continues to call the brightest and best to serve God’s people.




While none of the restructure plans passed, many of the components of the Call to Action report will be implemented in modified forms. Boards of agencies and commissions were reduced in size in an effort to promote efficiency. A fund was established to encourage and support young clergy and commitment was pledged in support of vital congregations for at least the next 10 years. Also, a petition was passed to eliminate guaranteed appointments that will allow flexibility to better meet congregational needs. Here in the Texas Annual Conference we now shift our focus to our Annual Conference on June 4th where we will join together to collectivelydiscern God's will for His church. It will be a time of worship, fellowship and planning for the future. Our annual conference will continue to grow vital congregations, empower our lay and clergy leaders, and reach out to theyoung to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world.

Caroling Hay Ride 2011

The Children’s Department would like to invite each and every one of you to join us as we venture out on our 3rd Annual Caroling Hayride.
Sunday, December 4th, after Church.


We will have a quick lunch in the Family Life Center and then proceed to “Carol” our way through Sweeny as we visit our shut-ins & The Fountains to deliver Christmas gift baskets.

Donations are Needed for Gift Baskets!


Some suggestions include:
Slipper Socks, Stocking Caps, Shawls or Scarves, Hard Candy, Snack Crackers with Cheese, Stationary & Stamps, Fresh Fruit & Nuts.

We will be making 30 baskets for our Church’s Shut-Ins & the residents of The Fountains plus 1 large basket of fruit, candy & nuts for the staff (18) of The Fountains. There are aprox. 6 men and 24 women who will be receiving the baskets so please keep that in mind when shopping for goodies. Donations may be brought to the Church Office or given to Anna or Jessica. You can also drop them off at V7 Photos (Monday, Wednesday & Fridays) if you miss us at the office. Please bring everything but the fruit by November 27th so that we can have the baskets ready to go except for adding the fruit the day of the Caroling Hay Ride. Please bring the fruit on Sunday, December 4th.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 is the United Methodist Women's 54th Annual Chicken Spaghetti Dinner & Bazaar.

Bazaar & Country Kitchen Opens at 8am.

Serving Times:
Dine-In or Take-Out: 11am - 1:30pm & 4pm-6:30pm
(take out for evening serving is thru 7pm)

Celebration of Life for Agnes Whitehead

The Celebration of Life Service for Agnes Whitehead is as follows:


Agnes was carried home by Her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 9am followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 10:30am.  The visitation & memorial will take place in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Sweeny.

Wounded Warriors

Time Friday, September 16 • 3:30pm


Location Along Hwy 35 at FM1459

20 wounded soldiers and their families/caregivers will be heading to a weekend retreat on the San Bernard River ["Hunts for Hero’s"] Come out and line the road to give them a hero's welcome they truly deserve. They should pass by Christian’s Corner at approximately 3:30pm. They will be coming from Bay City.

Calendar Fundraiser

The Children's Department is pre-selling 2012 calendars to help raise funds for our Maintenance Rehab Fund for the Church.  You can order your calendar for $10 from the Church office, during the week or in the Narthex after Church on Sunday mornings.  Orders must be placed by Oct. 16th to guarantee your order.  Calendars are expected to arrive by Oct. 31st and will be available for pick up at that time.  A select few calendars will be available to purchase at the Chicken Spaghetti Dinner on Nov. 3rd.  Please contact Anna or Jessica in the Church Office if you have any questions or if you would like to see the sample of the calendar.  God Bless!

Celebration of Life for Leroy Walker

Frank Leroy Walker was carried home by His Lord, Jesus Christ, this morning, September 2, 2011.

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 4th from 4pm to 6pm at Dixon Funeral Home located at 1211 South Brooks in Brazoria, TX.


Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 5th at 10am at the First United Methodist Church of Sweeny.
